THREE OAKS, Mich. -- Paws for Humanity is a non-profit organization out of Harbor Country in Three Oaks Michigan and provides a different kind of therapy for those in need.

Whether you’ve just had a bad day, or maybe you’re dealing with mental or physical health issues requiring some sort of therapy, Paws for Humanity wants to be your safe place.

While a lot of places focus on physical therapy, Paws for Humanity offers emotional therapy through a long list of animals they have taken in and given a new home to.

Miniature donkeys, goats, alpacas, ducks, dogs and cats are just a few of the animals you can spend time with during your visit.

All of the animals on the farm have a story on how they ended up there, but a certain three have a particularly touching background.

Marshmallow, Snowcone and Brownie are three Great Pyrenees sisters who have been at the sanctuary for almost one month now.

Prior to their arrival, residents in the area would make posts on Facebook about three homeless dogs who were living in the woods at the time.

One family managed to lure them into their yard and assumed ownership temporarily.

Since the dogs are larger breeds, quite talkative and a pair of three, it was difficult to find someone who would take them. Some farms offered to take one or two, but the girls needed to stay together.

This was exactly the kind of situation the Wellings’ were hoping to come across when they developed this organization.

The two co-founders worked with the family to take in the Great Pyrenees sisters, and continue to work with them and dog trainers to transition the animals to their new home at the sanctuary.

Anyone can visit the farm free of charge and spend as much time with the animals as they need to.

The mission of Paws for Humanity is simple: people helping animals help people.

“It’s more than just an animal sanctuary where people come out and visit the animals,” says Dale Welling, co-founder of Paws for Humanity. “It’s an experience, so what you put into it is what you’re going to get out of it, and animals help us bring the best in ourselves.”

Paws for Humanity has a lot of fun events planned, even as soon as this Labor Day weekend!

A concert will be held on September 4th at the farm from 5-8pm, as a part of its ‘Build the Barn’ concert series. ‘Off the Vine’ are the performers, offering a medley of country-flavored covers and originals. The event is free, but donations are encouraged and a $20 donation is suggested to help further the services the sanctuary can offer.

More events and information can be found at the Paws for Humanity Facebook page.
