LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Then La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies are currently investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash which occurred on US 35 Friday morning.

Authorities say deputies responded to the scene on US 35 in rural Center Township around 4:17 a.m.

Upon arrival, deputies located the crash just north of Stonehedge Way.

The initial investigation determined a green 2006 Hummer, driven by 50-year-old Jose A. Jenkins of La Porte, had been traveling south on US 35 when it left the west side of the roadway, continued onto the grass covered shoulder area, struck a gravel surface, and went airborne before coming to a stop.

Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers, a woman and three juveniles, were taken to the hospital for treatment.

US 35 remained closed for an extended period of time during the investigation.
