BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Lake Michigan College is celebrating a major milestone, 50 years of women's athletics.
It all started in 1974 with Liz Miller, Lake Michigan College’s first female athletic director, who launched the program during the rise of Title IX.
Miller coached volleyball, basketball and softball, making history as the first woman in Michigan to lead both men’s and women’s intercollegiate programs.
From then on, Miller set the tone for Lake Michigan College Women's Athletics, adding more sports, championships and producing all-star athletes.
With 50 years already down, Executive Director of Campus Life and Athletics Melissa Grau says the next 50 years look to be even more promising and inspiring.
