Lake effect snow continues overnight, ramping-up after midnight when snowfall could be at its most intense. Travel across Northern Berrien and Cass counties will be difficult if not dangerous, this includes the I-94 and US-31 corridors. The intense snowfall is likely to push into northern St. Joseph County (IN) overnight. Roads could become snow covered for parts of South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart and Niles. There will be a sharp cutoff to the south where little snow falls. The lake effect snow will wind-down by noon Tuesday.
The next focus will be Wednesday night - Thursday as a clipper spins through the Great Lakes. Another bout of lake effect snow is likely. Wind will also be an added factor, with gusts up to 40 mph. Plan for travel impacts Thursday morning.
The pattern will calm down and warm up, highs above freezing this weekend.
Tonight: Lake effect snow. Low 24.
Tuesday: Snow in the morning hours, partly cloudy in the afternoon. Expect travel delays. High 32.
Wednesday: Windy, mixed precipitation in the afternoon, relatively tepid. High 38.
Thursday: Windy, Lake effect snow. High 28.
