ISP investigating fatal crash involving Kokomo police officer
KOKOMO, Ind. -- At approximately 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Indiana State Police, along with the Howard County Sheriff's Office and the Kokomo Police Department, responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of S.R. 931 and Vaile Avenue in Kokomo.
The report states on-duty Kokomo Police Officer Jeremiah Wilson was driving his fully marked patrol vehicle north on S.R. 931, approaching Vaile Avenue.
Authorities say evidence indicates a 2010 Ford passenger van, driven by 32-year-old Timmothy A. Bergesen, traveling east, then entered the northbound lanes of S.R. 931 directly in front of Wilson.
Wilson stated he attempted to avoid the collision but subsequently struck the Ford on its passenger side.
The passenger, 55-year-old Vicky L. Hollingsworth of Kokomo, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Howard County Coroner’s Office.
Wilson suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
Bergesen was taken to a nearby hospital for a certified test and later taken to an Indianapolis hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the results of the certified test are pending.
This remains an ongoing active ISP crash investigation as Bergesen is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.
Hollingsworth's family has been notified.
