Free K-12 Summer Travel Program returns for Transpo and Interurban Trolley

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo) and The Interurban Trolley announced the free K-12 Summer Travel Program is returning for 2024.

The program provides unlimited travel for K through 12 students during the months of June, July, and August.

To be eligible for free travel on any Transpo or Interurban Trolley fixed routes, students need to show their valid student ID card each time they board a bus.

Officials say for homeschooled students or those who attend a school that does not issue an ID card, can contact Transpo’s office at (574) 232-9901 or visit the Transpo Information Booth at South Street Station to receive a pass.

The two transit systems connect at the jointly operated Yellow Line running between Transpo’s Mishawaka Transfer Center and downtown Elkhart.

Officials say the program's goal is to introduce more students to public transportation and provide increased access to employment and educational and recreational opportunities.
