ELKHART, Ind. - Jimtown football will have to wait a while for its home opener, playing the first three games on the road. However, when the Jimmies finally take the field for their first home game of 2019 on September 13, they'll have plenty to celebrate.
That game against John Glenn will be their first since the school made a transition from natural grass to field turf. It will also double as a dedication game for the facility's new name: Sharpe Stadium and Knepp Field.
As part of the renovation process, Jimtown named its stadium after former coach Bill Sharpe, who led the program to four state championships and two more finals appearances. Sharpe left Jimtown with a 288-54 record before stepping down in 2007.
Though the facility adds the longtime coach's name, the new turf field will keep its current name of Knepp Field.
In the video above, hear from athletic director Nathan Dean on the decision to honor Jimtown's history, and what it has meant for alumni throughout this process!
