Ivy Impact: Automotive Program fuels students for the future
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ivy Tech's automotive program, students are gearing up for success, learning how to drive their future forward and they're in for quite the ride.
According to Ivy Tech, the automotive program teaches students how to operate, diagnose and repair vehicles from newer automobiles, diesel trucks and hybrid and alternative fueled vehicles.
Students also learn critical skills in repairing equipment and computer use, preparing them for the evolving automobile industry.
Ivy Tech has plans to expand the curriculum by launching a hybrid vehicle program to teach students to safely repair high-voltage systems.
Students can earn multiple certifications, from basic maintenance to an associate's degree in automotive technology.
" We have a demand in this field for automotive technicians. Every shop you talk to is looking for good technicians, and it's very hard to find. That's why we want to get these guys trained as best as we can. We are keeping up with all the modern technology," Ivy Tech Automotive Instructor Jim Black said.
