Investigators look into four Benton Harbor fires as arson

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Four fires are being investigated as arson.

According to the Benton Harbor Public Safety Department, all four fires happened within two square blocks of each other, on the 800 and 900 blocks of Pavone and McAllister Streets.

Public Safety Director Roger Lange said that the first fire during the day was a vacant home around 3 p.m. The other three were vacant garages set between 10:30 p.m. and midnight.

A neighbor to one of the garage fires told us she heard an explosion right before the fire started.

"It was real bad. All of a sudden you heard a big boom, and all of a sudden fire started coming from everywhere," said Danielle Love.

Benton Harbor police said they plan to increase patrols in that neighborhood.
