Indiana I&M Power customers to see lower bills beginning in June
I&M Power SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Indiana Michigan Power customers in Indiana should expect a lower bill beginning in June, according to the company.
I&M announced the average Hoosier customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month will see a 3.6 percent, or roughly $6, decrease starting with the June billing cycle.
The reduction comes after the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved I&M’s request to lower customers’ monthly charge related to how company manages and sells energy in the regional power market.
Customers will see the reduction on the bill listed as Off System Sales Margin Sharing/PJM Cost Rider (OSS/PJM Cost Rider)."
I&M states this is part of a broader effort to keep energy affordable. This follows the February announcement that the company will file its Customer Benefits Plan later this summer to reduce base rates.
Officials say this also includes a multi-year freeze of non-fuel rates for Indiana customers, made possible by load growth and increased revenue from large customers including data centers.
“Our customers expect us to look for every opportunity to make energy costs more reasonable while still delivering reliable power and that’s what this reduced rate reflects,” said Katie Runkle, I&M’s vice president of External Affairs and Customer Experience. “We will keep working to make sure customers see those benefits through lower costs on their bills whenever possible.”
