UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection with late-night shooting on Nimtz Parkway

UPDATE: An 18-year-old man is in jail after being identified as the suspect in a shooting that occurred Friday night in the 6700 block of Nimtz Parkway.

The South Bend Police Department reports officers responded to the scene around 11:40 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police learned the victim had taken themselves to the hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigators soon identified Marquis Burton Jr. as a suspect in the case.

Burton was subsequently arrested and taken to St. Joseph County Jail.

Burton is charged with Criminal Recklessness and Criminal Recklessness Committed with a Deadly Weapon.

The case remains under investigation by the SBPD Violent Crimes Unit.

ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- St. Joseph County Dispatch reports there was a walk-in gunshot victim around 11:50 p.m. Friday at Memorial Hospital.

Officers were sent to the 5000 Block of Nimtz parkway to investigate, the scene is clear at this time.
