IDOC suspends visitation to La Porte correctional facilities to prevent COVID-19
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Three facilities in La Porte County have suspended all visitation to prevent potential spread of COVID-19.
The Indiana Department of Correction says that there are no known cases among staff or housed offenders, but they want to take precautionary measures.
The Indiana State Prison, La Porte Juvenile Correctional Facility and Westville Correctional Facility in La Porte County are among seven Indiana facilities involved.
“I know how important visitations are to offenders and to their family and friends, but the overriding concern is to limit the opportunity of COVID-19 being introduced into our facilities,” Commissioner Rob Carter said.
The department says that the facilities were selected because they are near an area or location where someone was infected by COVID-19.
