SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The hot temperatures we saw at the end of the month were significantly higher than average, and they could continue into May.
Thankfully on the 10-day forecast we are expecting to see the temperatures continue to stay mild, still hotter than average and the month of May is expected to keep an overall average trend.
Equal chances of seeing temperatures above or below average, we will likely warm dry conditions through the beginning of the month, thanks to what we call an Omega Block setting up.
This feature is named that due to the shape that the jet stream, the river of air separating warm and cold air in our atmosphere, makes around the high-pressure system.
Since these blocks are so large it takes a long time or another large system to move it, we could continue to see the warm and dry conditions through potentially the middle of the month.
This could lead to drought in Michiana, especially when you consider the slightly below average precipitation that we saw through the month of April.
Hopefully the rain that we see tonight and tomorrow starts the month off on a wet foot, but we will be keeping an eye on it.
