LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 41-year-old Burns Harbor woman is dead after driving her vehicle head-on into another motorist on S.R. 39 Wednesday afternoon.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the crash on S.R. 39, just south of C.R. 1500 South, around 4:02 p.m.

The initial investigation determined a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Sarah J. Geressy, was traveling north on S.R. 39 while a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 23-year-old La Porte woman, had been traveling south.

The report states Geressy then drove left of center, colliding head-on with the Wrangler.

Geressy was pronounced dead on scene.

The 23-year-old driver suffered injuries to her lower body.

Authorities say toxicology results are pending.
