UPDATE: 26-year-old motorcyclist dies after motorcycle and semi-truck crash on US 33

UPDATE: Elkhart Police Department has now identified the motorcyclist as Austin Aumack. 

The 26-year-old has died earlier this afternoon at the hospital. 

The crash reconstruction is still being completed and ABC57 will keep you updated as further details are released. 


ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a serious crash involving a motorcycle and semi-truck on US 33 and US 20.  The call came around 9 p.m., Thursday, about reports of a crash with injuries near South Main Street.

The investigation shows that the semi was traveling north on South Main Street and was attempting to turn left when a motorcycle traveling south crashed into the semi.

Elkhart Fire Department personnel rendered first aid and transported the 26-year-old motorcyclist to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious bodily injuries.

At last information, he was in critical condition.

The semi-truck driver, a 41-year-old man, was uninjured. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The Elkhart Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was activated, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
