Hannah Hidalgo named ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year

Notre Dame Women\'s Basketball

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Hannah Hidalgo has been announced as the ACC Player of the Year for the second season in a row and ACC Defensive Player of the Year for a third season.

Hidalgo becomes the first Irish player to win ACC Player of the Year twice, as Skylar Diggins won back-to-back Player of the Year awards.

Hidalgo started all 29 regular season games and averaged 36.1 minutes per game; Hidalgo led the entire NCAA with 5.6 steals per game and was third in the nation with 25.2 points per game. Adding 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, Hidalgo became just the second men’s or women’s college basketball player to ever average 25-plus points, five-plus rebounds, five-plus assists and five-plus steals per game in a season, joining only the late Kim Perrot’s 1990 season at Louisiana.

Hidalgo scored at least 30 points in nine games this season and dropped at least 22 points in 22 games. Hidalgo holds the record for the most 30-point and 20-point games in program history. With 30 points, 10 rebounds and 13 steals vs. Bellarmine Dec. 21, Hidalgo became the first player in Notre Dame women’s basketball history to put up a 30-point triple-double.

Hidalgo was also named ACC Player of the Week a record seven times this season, and her streak of scoring at least 10 points in every game of her career stands at a program-record 96 and counting.
