Halloween burglary at old Kroger building results in one arrest
James Weiser ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Documents from St. Joseph Superior Court reveal a 52-year-old man was arrested on Halloween for one count of Burglary, a Level 5 Felony.
The man, identified as James Weiser, allegedly accessed the old Kroger building on Western Avenue via the roof utilizing several tools.
The South Bend Police Department reports officers responded to the old Kroger on Halloween regarding a burglary alarm activated by a motion trip inside the building.
Officers arrived, checked the doors around the building, and found them to be secure.
Police went to the roof and found the entry point with a bag of tools nearby.
Once inside the store, officers say they heard noises while walking the aisles, at which point they saw Weiser lying on a bottom shelf surrounded by other shelving racks.
Police say Weiser ignored their commands to come out several times before they unleashed a K9.
The K9 was able to pull Weiser out at which point he was detained.
Weiser's first court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14.
