Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce reacts to Thor layoffs

ELKHART, Ind. -- Layoffs are hitting one of the biggest players in the RV industry.

Letting hundreds of workers go across three different Thor brands, Heartland RV, Cruiser RV, and DRV RV.

ABC57 reached out for comment and did not receive a response.

"Obviously, any time this number people potentially lose their job..,It’s a tough thing for the individuals, the company, and for the community as well,” said Levon Johnson, President and CEO of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce.

Johnson said the layoffs can likely be attributed to a number of factors, including record Covid years, strains on the retail market, and tariffs as the industry braces for an adjustment period.

But for now he says it’s too early to tell if these layoffs are just a taste of what’s to come,

"Those things together will keep an eye on and see if it’s a trend because we are trying to adjust and find consistency in what the market is doing not just in the RV industry, but just in business in general in particular is people looking at pricing increases and how that affects consumer spending and leads to decisions on production,” said Johnson.
