GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Goshen Theater has announced a Roaring Twenties-themed event, "Moonlight and Moonshine: A Speakeasy Soiree," that promises an evening that would make Jay Gatsby jealous.

“It will be very much an immersive 1920s experience,” said Goshen Theater Program Director Adrienne Nesbitt. “It really is a fun night to go full Prohibition era.”

The night begins at 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Goshen Theater. Tickets cost $35 and can either be purchased at the box office (noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays) or online.

A ticket includes a night "filled with shenanigans," music, appetizers, and a welcome drink. Jazz combo The Dean’s List will be playing as well.

“The Goshen Theater was built in 1907 and has some really cool nooks and crannies,” Nesbitt said. “They lend themselves to the reality of what some of the buildings and some of the spaces would have looked like in the 1920s.”

The event is a joint venture between The Goshen Theater and Art House, both not-for-profit entities.

“Goshen Theater is a venue that hosts many different types of activities for all different types of audiences,” Nesbitt explained. “Art House has a specific mission to create low-barrier, high-possibility opportunities for this region’s artists. While we’re both in the arts world, our focus is slightly different. However, it’s a very natural partnership, especially for something like this."

Attendees must be age 21 or older, and period clothing is encouraged but not required.

“Because of our collaboration, we’re able to bring in elements of theater, of live music with The Dean’s List, dance, amazing drinks, time period-appropriate food and snacks, and massive amounts of ambience,” said Nesbitt. “Art House frequently is coming up with new and creative projects and ideas that bring in different types of art forms. Goshen Theater is always open to different collaborations. It was just a really natural fit to work together.”

The Goshen Theater is owned by Goshen Theater, Inc. (GTI), a nonprofit organization.
