NOW: Goshen College cuts ribbon for new Center for Nursing and Public Health

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Goshen College cut the ribbon and opened the doors to the newly completed Westlawn renovation Wed. afternoon, which includes the college’s new Center for Nursing and Public Health.

Program leaders and students giving guided tours and demonstrations through what they call a state-of-the-art teaching facility.

Modeling themselves after the best programs that exist across the area, Jewel Yoder, a professor and the Chair of the Nursing and Public Health Department, said the $21 million renovation brought the building to 18,000 square feet, tripling the space nursing students used to work in.

“That allows us for growth, we’d really love to see more students come and make use of our amazing facility spaces. We have a simulation lab that has three different rooms where we can focus on doing simulations related to OB care, pediatric care, ICU trauma care… beyond that we have a skills lab that has ten different mannequins where we can teach all of the basic kind of nursing skills and head-to-toe assessment, that are the basic fundamentals that nursing students need,” said Yoder.

Yoder said the program is currently accepting applications for anyone interested in nursing or health care.

“This is sort of the state-of-the-art, the benchmark that people want to aspire to…If… you’re the parent of a high school student or somebody that you know would be interested in nursing or public health, please look us up at Goshen College… we’d love to talk with people,” said Yoder
