UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal shooting on C.R. 16, cause and manner of death revealed

UPDATE TWO: The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office announced the autopsy on the 28-year-old victim, identified as Dakota Barnes, has been completed.

Her cause of death was found to be a gunshot, and the manner of death is homicide.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office announced the male suspect in Friday's shooting allegedly shot a 28-year-old woman.

The woman was pronounced dead on scene, and her identity has yet to be released.

The suspect was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

ABC57 has been unable to get confirmation on the condition of the suspect, or who he is.

ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a shooting in the 29000 block of C.R. 16 in Elkhart around 8 a.m., Friday.

Deputies arrived to find one person dead and a second person with serious injuries.

The injured person was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say this was an isolated incident and there's no threat to the public.
