Free trees for families at Elkhart Environmental Center to celebrate Earth Day

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Environmental Center is celebrating Earth Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by giving trees away to local families.
The free family-friendly celebration will also include kids’ activities, the annual spring plant exchange, a habitat restoration activity, and more.
Attendees can grab one of 21 tree species ranging in size from two to five feet tall.
Organizers say trees are usually claimed quickly, but this year there are more to go around with the center giving away around 400 trees.
At 10:30 a.m., kids can stop by the Kids Activities and Workshop tent to build a free bluebird box to take home while supplies last.
At noon, you can join the Spring Seeds and Starters Exchange, so bring your seeds, bulbs, and spring plant starts to exchange with other gardeners.
During the entire event, you can enjoy booths, free face painting, and food from Phabulous Phoenix Rolling Diner.
Attendees can also support a new group working to tackle invasive species in Elkhart County and help them remove invasive honeysuckles from around the center and replant the area with new native trees.
The EEC is located at 1717 E. Lusher Ave. in Elkhart.
One tree will be given per household, while supplies last.
