UPDATE: Deceased drivers identified in multi-vehicle crash at C.R. 40 and C.R. 17

UPDATE: The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says their preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota GR8, driven by 24-year-old Alismond Kid Saentavanh of Wakarusa, was traveling east on C.R. 40 and disregarded a stop sign at C.R. 17.

Deputies say Saentavanh then collided with a Ford Explorer, driven by 21-year-old Steven Perez, traveling south on C.R. 17, along with a Ford Escape, driven by 69-year-old Donna Rae Gushwa of Milford, which was traveling north on C.R. 17.

The report states the Explorer then flipped and collided with a Honda CR-V traveling north on C.R. 17.

Perez was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle.

All other drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Saentavanh was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for complaints of pain and a possible broken collarbone.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for a broken ankle, clavicle, and knuckles.

Perez and Gushwa were pronounced dead at the scene.

This crash is still under investigation by the ECSO Crash Investigation Team.

ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a reported vehicle crash at the intersection of C.R. 17 and C.R. 40 around 7:49 a.m. Friday.

Authorities arrived to find four vehicles involved.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene as a result of the crash.

Two other people were injured.

Investigators' preliminary report suggest a vehicle traveling east on C.R. 40 disregarded the stop sign at C.R. 17.

Authorities say the exact cause of the crash may be subject to further clarification as investigators continue to gather information.

No additional details regarding those involved are being released until next of kin has been notified.
