I'm saddened to learn of the passing of my friend, John Voorde.John was a supporter, a friend, and someone I learned a great deal from over the years. But more than anything, he was someone who made me laugh. No matter the situation, John seemed to have a way of finding humor and making the people around him smile.One of my favorite memories happened when I found a Key to the City of South Bend in the Township building with his father's name on it. I asked John if he'd like to have it, and without missing a beat he replied, "Nah, we've got tons of 'em."That was John. Humble, quick-witted, and never one to take himself too seriously.I'll always be grateful for the conversations, the advice, and the laughs we shared.John will be missed, and my thoughts are with his family and all who knew him.Rest in peace, my friend

The South Bend Common Council extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of former City Clerk John Voorde following his passing.John Voorde dedicated himself to public service and the City of South Bend. ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A prominent figure in local politics has died.

Sources close to the family of John Voorde confirm Voorde passed at the age of 81. 

Voorde was previously a South Bend city councilman. He was the son of former South Bend mayor Edward "Babe" Voorde.
