Former Jimtown coach Leighton takes reins of Concord Boys Basketball squad

ELKHART, Ind. -- Concord High School has named its new Boys Basketball Head Coach in Tyler Leighton, pending School Board approval at their next meeting May 5.
“I’m humbled by the amount of support shown to me by the Concord administrative team. And I'm very excited for the opportunity to coach at Concord in the NLC and in the Elkhart Sectional," Leighton said.
Leighton takes over the Minutemen after leading Jimtown, where he coached the Jimmies to sectional and regional championships for the first time in 21 years in his first two years at the helm.
"I’ve loved working at Jimtown and leading my alma mater. I’m very proud of how we’ve rebuilt the program," Leighton said.
Before his time at Jimtown, Leighton was an assistant under Hall of Fame Coach Al Rhodes at Penn High School, where he helped coach the Kingsmen to Elkhart Sectional and NIC Conference championships in 2022 and 2023.
"Leighton takes over a Minutemen program that went 13-10 last season under Coach Derrick DeShone who was promoted to an administrative position within the district," Concord school officials said.
Leighton is excited to get to work, and the Concord is excited to see where he can take the program.
“We are excited to have Tyler join our staff,” said Dave Preheim, Concord High School Athletic Director. “Our committee was impressed with his varied experiences, but more importantly his history of building relationships and serving as a positive role model for the student-athletes in his program. We look forward to him continuing to build upon the history and traditions of Concord Basketball and can’t wait for him to get started!”
