Five arrested following massage parlor investigation in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a multi-agency investigation into illicit activity at massage parlors in Michigan City and Trail Creek led to the arrest of five people for prostitution-related charges.

The investigation was led by the La Porte County Drug Task Force, and included the Michigan City Police Department, La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, Trail Creek Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement focused on reported illegal activity happening at multiple establishments.

The report states undercover officers with the county's drug task force booked massages but uncovered criminal activity.

Authorities say the encounters provide the foundation for prostitution-related charges, leading to search warrants.

The report states HIS, officers, and social workers worked together to offer victim advocacy and a variety of social services to the women involved.

At Green Spa and Massage on Franklin Street, Zhangping Chen and Xiaozhi Zeng were each arrested and charged with Prostitution, an A-Misdemeanor.

At Elements Massage on Franklin Street, Lihong Zhu was arrested and charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Level 6 Felony, while Juan Xia was arrested and charged with Prostitution, an A-Misdemeanor.

At Ruby Massage on U.S. 20, Yiqun Chen was arrested and charged with Prostitution, an A-Misdemeanor.

Local law enforcement added they remain committed to not only shutting down illegal operations but providing a pathway to safety and stability for those caught in these circumstances.
