The real-life Coach Carter interviewed tonight by Brian Conybeare

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Bryan Conybeare interviewed the real Coach Carter tonight at the Family & Children's Center's Spotlight Dinner.

Ken Carter on which the film "Coach Carter" is based, was asked to be the Spotlight Dinner's special guest speaker because, as stated by the organization:

"Known for locking his undefeated basketball team out of the gym to focus on academics, Coach Carter’s message of accountability and empowerment mirrors the mission of Family & Children’s Center: helping every child and family unlock their full potential in a safe, supportive environment."

The non-profit focuses on preventing child abuse before it happens with programs that include parental education, home visits, and early childhood development services, and the Spotlight Dinner serves as one of the non-profit's main fundraising events.
