FDA cautions against WanaBana fruit puree pouches for potential lead levels

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues a public health alert to not buy or feed children WanaBana fruit puree pouches due to potential elevated levels of lead in the product. 

WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches are sold nationally and are available at multiple retailers including Sam's Club, Amazon and Dollar Tree. 

WanaBana is cooperating with the FDA and will recall all apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches regardless of expiration dates. 

If you think a young child has consumed the product, contact the child's healthcare provider about getting a blood test. 

Signs and symptoms of lead toxicity can lead to short term symptoms: 

  • headache
  • abdominal pain
  • vomiting
  • anemia

and long-term symptoms: 

  • irritability
  • lethargy
  • fatigue
