ORIGINAL:The Warsaw Police Department reports on Tuesday around 3:19 a.m., officers along with other first responders were dispatched to a serious crash at Detroit Street and Winona Avenue (S.R. 15).
Upon arrival, authorities found a 2021 Jeep overturned in the roadway adjacent to Winona Avenue in front of the Site of Cowen Grove Seminary historical marker, and a 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca with damage to the driver’s side, closer to Jefferson Street.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner.
The Subaru's driver fled the scene prior to the arrival of first responders.
Police say while there are no known witnesses to the crash, preliminary evidence suggests the Jeep was driving south on S.R. 15 when the driver struck the Subaru which was travelling north.
The Jeep's registration shows it's out of a Canadian province.
The coroner’s office is in the process of notifying the victim's family.
The driver's identity is being withheld pending notification.
S.R. 15 was shut down between Market Street and Winona Avenue until around 5:15 a.m.
The Warsaw Police Department Detective Division is working leads on the suspect who fled.
