FACT identifies motorcyclist killed in crash on Sunday

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team has released the name of the motorcyclist who was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon at Mayflower Road and W. Western Avenue.

The motorcyclist was identified as Thomas Stitt, 38, of South Bend.

Investigators say around 5:40 p.m. a Chrysler was traveling southbound on Mayflower, attempting a left turn onto Western when it collided with Stitt’s motorcycle, which was traveling northbound on Mayflower.

Stitt was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe injuries.

Stitt died at the hospital.

Blood samples were obtained from both drivers, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
