SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University hosted an event on Tuesday to give South Bend residents a chance to witness a court case up close and personal.
The event was called “Appeals on Wheels” and locals sat in on an actual weapon possession court case, Robert H. Smith versus the State of Indiana.
Attendees had a Q & A session with Judge Terry Crone following the hearing.
"This is our 43rd oral argument on the road this year and we travel to various venues where we think it will provide educational insight into how the court operates, how the judicial system works, and it's an opportunity for students to learn the difference between how things work in an actual legal system as opposed to for example what they might see on TV," said Judge Terry Crone of the Indiana Court of Appeals.
The courtroom was filled with students, professors, and local judges during the event.
