It was just over 24 hours ago when we found out Tommy Rees was a candidate for the job and that he was headed to Bama for the interview -- now here we are and it's not that much of a surprise that Tommy Rees chose Bama over Notre Dame because of the success Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban produces in his coaches and players.
A number of sources, including Pete Thamel of ESPN, confirmed the news Friday afternoon.
Rees spent four years as a quarterback for the Irish before joining the staff in 2017 as the quarterback coach, taking the offensive coordinator role in 2020.
Rees would have been going into year four as the OC but now that he has taken the same role at Bama, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has the ability to sit back and choose a replacement that fits his needs and wants for the offense for his second season leading the team.
Sources: Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees has accepted the Alabama offensive coordinator job.
