Elkhart Common Council to replace sewer and water lines rate increase

ELKHART, Ind. - Elkhart Common Council announced plans to replace lead water lines and aging sewer infrastructure, on Monday night, but there's a catch: they plan to raise water and sewer rates to cover it.

Elkhart says this is to comply with federal unfunded mandates.

For water customers, they can expect a $6 per month increase by 2027.

For sewers the increase will be $6.86 starting next August.

The city says they could face EPA penalties if they don't comply.
