Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo announce keynote speaker for Black Women Who Rock

Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo announced the keynote speaker for their 2025 Black Women Who Rock award dinner happening on Feb. 22 at Matterhorn Banquet Hall.

The keynote speaker will be Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch, the city's first African American female mayor.

Robert Taylor, President of the Elkhart Chapter of IBE, says the annual event honors African American women in Elkhart County for their exceptional work in the community.

Cora Breckenridge and Rev. Jean Mayes will be honored with the Edith Pasley Lifetime Achievement Awards for their outstanding work in the county, according to organizers.

Other Black Women Who Rock honorees include Particia Wiley Robinson, Mamie Bates, Raven Brooks, Angelia Pulliam, Christy Matthews, Fran Bouie, Wanda Shorter. Ruithe Williams, Antjuna Colman, Tessa Barnes, and Danica Barnes.

Mayor Deuitch is a Michigan City-native and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Florida A&M University and a master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

She's also involved with several community organizations.

Matterhorn Conference Center is located at 2041 Cassopolis St. in Elkhart.
