Election Results: Republicans win a slate of St. Joseph County races
ST. JOSPEH COUNTY, Ind. -- In what some refer to as "down ballot races," local republicans are riding a red wave of victory Tuesday night as their candidates have claimed the county treasurer, coroner, recorder, and surveyor seats.
While the victories came in bunches, many of them came by very slim margins.
In the race for St. Joseph County Treasurer, republican Michael Rose garnered 49,649 total votes while his democratic opponent Mary Beth Wisniewski received 48,853, a margin of just 796 votes.
Candace Brown won the seat of County Recorder by a close margin of 51 percent (50,523 votes) while her democratic opponent took 49 percent (48,185).
In the race for county surveyor, republican Derek Dieter scored 51 percent of the votes (50,706 total votes) and democrat Ed Fisher got 49 percent (48,577 total votes).
In the race with the biggest margin of victory of these four seats, republican incumbent Patricia Jordan won the seat of St. Joseph County Coroner with a victory of 53,044 total votes (54 percent) to democratic challenger Michael McGann's 45,720 (46 percent).
