INDIANAPOLIS — The Department of Public Safety is launching a major study looking into truant students in Indiana.
Public safety officials say truancy is a gateway to a life of crime.
In Indiana, a child with 10 or more absences is considered truant.
Parents will be held accountable as well.
In the past year, 126 parents went to court for failure to ensure the education of their children.
