Michiana's next winter weather system is fast approaching, but this time around, the biggest headline may have nothing to do with snow totals.
Afternoon rain, an evening mix, and overnight snow will all be on the menu for Michiana Thursday into Friday. While some spots could pick up a few inches of fresh snow, the bigger story is what comes after the snow ends.
Temperatures will fall from just above freezing around midnight Friday to the middle teens by 5:00 a.m. Any water on the roadways will freeze quickly, leading to a "flash freeze" event. Roads will become icy and travel could be hazardous early Friday morning.
Blowing snow could be an issue on Friday as well with wind gusts of more than 30 mph possible.
All of this will occur BEFORE the deep freeze this weekend and early next week.
