25-year-old man found guilty in 2023 murder, arson

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- The Berrien County Prosecutor's Office announced a 25-year-old St. Joseph Township man was found guilty of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, First-Degree Felony Murder, and Arson in the first degree in the March 11, 2023, arson-homicide of 65-year-old Wendell Hill Jr.

The incident occurred at Hill's home in the 1200 block of Coolidge Avenue in Benton Township.

Raymond J. Bogucki, the man convicted, is scheduled to be sentenced in Berrien County Circuit Court on May 5.

Documents state Hill's body was found when the Benton Township Police Department and Fire Department responded to his home for a reported structure fire.

Firefighters arrived to find Hill unconscious after making entry into the home.

Hill was then taken outside where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

All three of Bogucki's offenses are punishable by up to life in prison.
