MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library launched a new bookmobile on Tuesday to extend library access across Penn and Harris townships.
The new bookmobile will make scheduled visits to senior centers, underserved neighborhoods, and local daycares.
Patrons will have the opportunity to obtain library cards, browse materials, and check out books on site.
MPHPL received multiple donations from the Mishawaka and St. Joseph Common Councils for the van and received help from Mayor Wood for finding the perfect spot for a garage to house the new bookmobile.
The new van includes an electric wheelchair ramp to easily move carted materials on and off, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, an awning and external speakers, and features designed to make both indoor lobby stops and outdoor outreach events simple and accessible.
