NAPPANEE, Ind. -- Indiana 2nd District Congressman Rudy Yakym spoke to a crowd of Nappanee residents Monday following their annual Memorial Day parade.
Congressman Yakym especially highlighted the need to honor the families of those left behind.
The small city goes above and beyond each year to honor the lives of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Beyond the parade, the ceremonies also included a performance of the national anthem, America the Beautiful and Taps.
Following a name ceremony, rifle salute and Taps, the 7th Indiana Battery Light Artillery fired off a Civil-War era cannon, twice.
A memorial honoring the lives of veterans from Nappanee who lost their lives while serving is outside Nappanee City Hall year-round.
