ELKHART, Ind. --- High end condos or a multi-functional boathouse?
Those were the two proposals made for a hot property in Elkhart before the city's redevelopment commission Wednesday night.
The site in question sits along the Elkhart and St. Joseph River on East Jackson Boulevard and has been vacant for 15 years..
Now there's two possibilities for what could go there but city officials said they still need more time before they can make a decision on which one.
Those in favor of the rowing club and communal park filling the space argued it's an opportunity to engage the community while those on the condo side of things said they'd be helping to solve Elkhart's housing crisis. Both project would be funded privately.
The redevelopment commission will meet again June 11 to revisit the decision.
