We Make Indiana push for Fair Share Agreement just before St. Joseph County Council meeting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- We Make Indiana held a press conference at the County City Building ahead of Tuesday's St. Joseph County Council meeting.

We Make Indiana is a multi-faith network of congregations and organizations across Northern Indiana, partnering with government officials and institutions to make the community a better place to live.

"We want to make sure that our land, our water, our electrical grids, those things are being taken care of, they're sustainable, and that it's not going to impact, you know, we have farmers, and then of course just our local population," said Wayne Peterson-Stephan, the Pastor at Zion Community Church.

In St Joseph County, they have 30 participating congregations and organizations.

While they are open and supportive to discussions on bans and moratoriums, the group is more concerned with the data centers already here in Michiana.

"If we're going to be offering things, if they're going to be coming in and using our resources and impacting our community, how are we holding them accountable and how are we asking them to invest back into the community?"

Peterson-Stephan says if a Fair Share Agreement isn't put in place, there's thing that will be left on the table, "so we want, as it's in the name, right, a Fair Share Agreement. We want them showing up in meaningful ways in our community."
