Compton Family Ice Arena opens its doors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Compton Family Ice Arena is finally open to both the Notre Dame Hockey Team and the public.

ABC 57 was able to tour the building and get a preview of what to expect for Friday's game.

Students and fans are excited for the big game on Saturday night.

Sophomore swimmers Christen McDonough and Lauren Stouder said they've been to games at the Joyce and they can't wait to see Saturday night's match-up.

"This is 100 times better than the Joyce," Stouder said.

Associate Coach Andy Slaggert said the team is equally excited to make a good first impression for their fans.

"It's a big enough deal as it is without telling the guys how big it is. They know and they're excited. They want to make a good first impression for fans and the Notre Dame community. It's going to be more about tempering their excitement than pumping them up."

The game starts at 7:35 p.m. at the Compton Family Ice Arena.
