2:00 Cool days and chilly nights ahead going into the weekend
Most of Thursday's snow melted on Friday as highs reached the middle 40s across Michiana.
While this weekend won't feel much like winter, there's growing confidence that our first bout of cold air will arrive during the Thanksgiving weekend.
High temperatures leading up to Thanksgiving will fall into the 30s. Michiana's temperatures to start December could be much colder, however.
The Climate Prediction Center favors Michiana for below-normal temperatures for the first week of December. Recently, December has not been overly cold for most of the area. Just last year, South Bend experienced the second warmest December on record!
If a cold snap does arrive when Lake Michigan is still relatively warm, then we'll have to be on guard for lake-effect snow. Early indications are hinting at a chance of lake-effect snow by Black Friday, but there is still a lot of uncertainty this far out.
Stay with ABC57 for the latest forecast updates as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
