SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Canneth Lee has been chosen to be the newest member of the South Bend Common Council after a vacancy was left behind by Tim Scott’s resignation back in June.
A South Bend Democratic Caucus was held Wednesday night and Lee was chosen among 9 total candidates.
Lee will represent South Bend’s 1st district.
Current Councilman Henry Davis, Jr. commented on Lee’s appointment, saying, “I have known Canneth since high school. I believe that his experiences as a Black man raised in a working class family on the northwest side of our great city make him requisitely qualified to represent the interests of people who are often times left out of decisions made by government.”
Lee works with the Group Violence Intervention program at Goodwill Industries.
Among the nine candidates included Garret Blad, Richard Klee, Anne Manniz, Aisha Martins, Kim McInerney, Christine Peterson, Jennifer Robinson and Alexandra Sarell.
