BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The smell of Bar-B-Q filled Michigan democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Elissa Slotkin's press event in Benton Harbor on Friday as attendees filled the tables of a downtown restaurant to hear Slotkin speak about her priorities as a candidate.
The event was part of her Grassroots Campaign event schedule, and she will also be in Holland, Mich. Friday afternoon.
Roughly 50 people attended the event at Lark's Bar-B-Que, including State Representative Joey Andrews, Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad, and Berrien County District 3 Commissioner Chokwe Pitchford.
Slotkin spoke about her experience at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this week and some of the things she hopes to accomplish if elected.
Her platform includes curbing gun violence, allowing women freedom over their own bodies, and bringing the middle class into a more accessible place.
