'Build Them Up' program continues to uplift at-risk youth
MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- “Build Them Up” is a community program that Aaron “Beat Dem Up” Smith one of few local MMA fighters to uplift at-risk youth and adults that struggle with fitness and personal goals.
The program was created in response to a need for a positive outlet to combat and flush out all the noise of gun violence and mental health challenges that this pro fighter could resist fighting against.
Aaron “Beat Dem Up” Smith shares how he is committed to offering the community skills to build resilience, discipline and self-awareness through his program.
“We give them the courage to be able to persevere through all the challenges a lot of time if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you, so we make sure that we are a good role model for the youth.” said Smith
Since 2019, the program has encouraged at-risk youth to learn, grow and train to rise above life obstacles and reach for success.
Youth programs are active on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday whether it’s through mentorship, kickboxing, mixed martial arts or fitness training depending on your desired interest the goal is to build both physical and mental strength.
Youth ages 2-18 years old can focus on their growth where the program usually supports up to 80 kids monthly to build physical endurance and emotional resilience while fostering lifelong friendships.
Other than fitness training they also offer nutritional guidance and mental health training to help combat issues that the community faces daily.
