Bremen parents and school admin hope to work together to address parent survey concerns
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- ABC57 first reported last month about a parent survey that was posted to a Bremen Nosey Neighbors group on Facebook, asking for parent's thoughts on Bremen Public Schools and its administration, namely Bremen Superintendent Dr. Jim White.
The intention was to present the results of the survey at Wednesday's School Board meeting to create a clear line of communication between concerned parents and school leaders.
However, there was no talk about the parent survey in the public comment portion of the meeting.
Superintendent White says he wasn't too surprised by that, because he instead directly received the results of the survey the night prior from the creator of it.
He was able to read through all 77 responses, and despite some negative, even hurtful responses, he says he knows the survey was well-intended at its core.
Through the noise and toxicity, he says, in Facebook chatter, he realizes there are legitimate concerns brought forth by parents, like bullying, which he says he is working to tackle head on through new protocols.
He hopes there can be a day when parents and admin can work together to make the school experience better for their children, and the Facebook negativity can be put to rest.
"It's great to be here and this school is so wonderful. That's why it hurts when people get sideways with the school and that gets out publicly. That doesn't reflect well on any of us," says Superintendent of Bremen Public Schools, Dr. Jim White.
He continues to encourage parents who have issues or concerns with Bremen Public Schools to reach out to him directly.
