Bikes for Kids to provide over 500 bikes to kids in need starting April 19

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The nonprofit organization, Bikes for Kids, announced it will hold two events where 510 kids in need will receive a bike and helmet, with the first event taking place on April 19.
The first event will be at Plymouth High School starting at 10 a.m.
Attendees will go to Entrance #5 at 1 Big Red Drive and Blissville Church of Plymouth will provide lunch.
The nonprofit will give new bikes and helmets to all qualified 2nd grade children.
Organizers say area schools, including Plymouth, Culver, John Glenn, Triton, Bremen, Argos, Union-North, Oregon-Davis, and area Christian Schools, will provide students with a form in advance that they can bring to the event.
Children must be present to receive a bicycle with no exceptions, parents or guardians must sign a waiver and release of liability form at the event, and bikes will be given away on a first come first serve basis, organizers said.
It's recommended to arrive early since they will run out and cannot take orders for bikes after the event.
Qualified children include those who are currently living below poverty level or are at a ALICE level, meaning asset limited, income constrained, employed.
Officials with the nonprofit say they rely on their school system partners to alert families of these children that they qualify for the free bike and helmet program.
Organizers say home schooled children who can provide a SNAP, EBT, or similar card, also qualify for a new bike and helmet.
The second event will take place at Knox High School at 1 Redskin Trail in Knox on May 17 at 10 a.m. CST.
The Starke County Resource Center will provide lunch.
New bikes and helmets will be provided for all qualified 2nd grade children, and area schools, including Knox and North Judson, will provide children with a form in advance that they can bring to the event.
Bikes for Kids says they're aiming to distribute a total of 1,175 bikes across their target counties in 2026 with support from their new partners.
