Beyond the Kitchen collaborates with other local non-profits to provide hot meals for those in need
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Food insecurity is a mounting challenge for many local non-profits and now Beyond the Kitchen is offering not just hot meals but hope within the community.
The non-profit has partnered with Life Changers of South Bend Indiana and Cultivate Food Rescue to become that lifeline for those people in need.
Beyond the Kitchen understands that food is more than just a nourishment, it’s a way to build stronger communities.
From fried chicken to rice and crafted puree liquids for those who can’t chew, the staff make sure that everyone at the table has a meal that meets their needs.
According to the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County has a food insecurity rate over 12.9 percent, meaning at least over 34,000 residents currently don’t have access to fresh, healthy, affordable food options.
Joseph Montgomery, owner of Beyond the Kitchen Table Corporation, says they are looking to bridge the gap in food security while executing their mission.
“We figured if we could do it more than twice a week it will be very, you know, it would help out a lot of people that need it,” said Montgomery. “We're here Tuesday and Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. every week and we hope to see you guys.”
The non-profit is fighting against hunger here in South Bend by providing meals for those in need not only once but twice a week hoping to expand their reach across the community.
Pastor Charles King III, pastor of Life Changers of South Bend, is encouraging the community to purchase a ticket to their four-course feast fundraiser that will go directly towards putting meals on the table and benefiting those in need.
“It’s going to be an awesome meal. It is a four-course meal, they are bringing in a regionally renowned chef to cook this meal, and it is going to be something that you want to participate and be in,” said King III.
You can scan their QR code on their flyer to RSVP or donate to a fundraiser that will help continue to nourish and be able to reach even more families in need.
The event will take place on March 1, with tickets available until Feb. 28. To learn more about Beyond the Kitchen’s commitment to the community, they recommend you follow their social media page.
